For the occasion that you are beautiful.

I got back to Ottawa a few days ago, the drive up was pretty nice.... You could say we were really 'fortune'-ate....two of my co-pilots had their palms and futures read on the way (she wouldn't read mine -_-). It's been a little over a week now since the opening for 'i can't love you, but we can romance'. Coming back home I was rocked with a lot of news, and the catch up game has also been pretty intense. Sorry if I haven't responded to your email or msgs yet- i'm trying my best to get to them asap.

I wanted to say thank you to those of you who were soo great with getting the word out about the show, and letting all your friends and loved ones know about it, and for your continued efforts as well-- whether it be from facebook, twitter, blogs, telegraphs, holographs...the response has been unbelievable, and it was really great running into so many old friends and new.

We were so fortunate to have soo many great friends documenting the show that night, you can find some photos from the show here, here and here. Thanks so much to Mr. Lo, Richard Ho, Simon Cole, and my pops Dhiren Malavia, for taking so many great shots of the night. If you happened to take some photos that night, please feel free to send them to me. I'd love to post them up on my flickr and credit you as well.

When you get a chance, you should check out Tessar and Show & Tell Gallery's feature on Late Night in the Bedroom, it's a pretty great episode!

I mentioned it in my last post, but if you didn't get a chance to check it out, both Tessar and I had done an interview with Amanda over at Erratic Phenomena, who made the journey all the way up from sunny California for the show. It was sooo much fun hanging out with you, Amanda!

Here are some of Amanda's thoughts on here trip up to our winter wonderland!

Some of you may have already received a message from me, but I wanted o say thank you to everyone who came out to the opening, and a special thanks to all the collectors and patrons out there, who have shown their support and allowed me the opportunity to share my work with you. You don't know how much it means to me!

And even though I believe we should always be living lives of hopeless romance, I hope you all take this occasion to take that risk and share your heart with that special someone in your life...but please do dress it up today (suggestions: flowers, bow-tie, cooking dinner at home, go see 'i can't love you, but we can romance', you know thoughtful shit!, etc.)...something about the little things making up the big picture....

As for myself, this year I find myself alone on V-day and Chinese New Years....soo, I'm gonna spend part of my day drawing 'fierce' valentine's day cards, ala Tigress if anyone's interested in sharing ;).

i can't love you, but we can romance

tonight's the night.

It seems like no time ago that I was imagining what story I should tell, and trying the imagine/remember the beginnings of things... without getting all misty, I just wanted to share how excited i am to exhibit this body of work and share my experiences with you. I can't thank enough my family and dear friends who have helped and supported me through it all. In particular, Tessar, Erika, the Lo family and my own family--this could not have been done without you.

here are some keepsakes you pick up at the show,
'protege-moi de mes désires' (boy/girl),
two-colour gocco prints on stonehenge, 4 x 6"

(limited edition of 25 each)
Along with the prints, I wanted to put together a little something for all of those who weren't able to take home an original piece of work from the show-- a catalog/zine/keepsake for my first solo show. The catalogs are limited to 95, and measure 4x6" (folded) and 18 x 32" (unfolded) and include some writing, work from the show, plus some drawings, photos, and an artist statement. You can pick up a copy at the opening, just talk to Simon or myself about getting one, or if you have any inquiries about getting a piece of work, print or catalog visit the Show and Tell gallery website.

Also if you haven't had a chance to see the work from the show, visit the S&T gallery website to see the work up from both Tessar and myself. Also, if you have a minute or two, be sure to check the beautiful interview that Amanda had done with Tessar over at Erratic Phenomena about his solo.

things are always just a little bit more beautiful in the dark, so come out and let's celebrate 'everything we wanted, in our nostalgic future,' and 'i can't love you, but we can romance' together tonight, Friday, February 5th, 2010.
Thank you all for your continuing support and hope to see you there.
