Tainted Young

Here's one of the pieces that i recently finished up. I started this one out with the focus of 'communicating' the message I had in mind. The main idea for this piece kind of sprung from the movie 'Point Break'...just kidding...I was thinking about how some people can become jaded so early on in life, and and whether that comes from something that's happened to them, or a thought that's threatened their innocence.

24" by 22" mixed media on paper
I also wanted to try a different process, to try and find different methods that are more representative of the way i want to work. It's been pretty challenging and most of the time pretty painful too, but I think it'll be worth it. Anyhoo, on to scanning the next beast...

The tears remind me of these Jill Greenberg photos, the ones with super high res photos of kids crying, and their tears are just sparkling from the intense lighting, and copious amounts of drool spewing forth from their mouths, boogers running free like wild horses through a majestic meadow on a moon lite night. You laugh because it is funny, but wonder. What horrid event must these young children have gone through to express such anguish? Revelations that Santa and Easter bunny are all but lies? No, they can not have ice cream after dinner? Jimmy will not share his new Tonka truck?! Their innocence is lost and put on display for the whole world to view at leisure. It also reminds me of Hot Fuzz, mostly just the point blank reference.

In conclusion, I like what you did here. Keep it up.

okay first of all, this is dope as hell. I can really see a difference in your use of media and composition. It's really quite stunning. Second of all, it's about time you threw up some new LA work. And third of all, I think Ryan left alone in Oakville for too long has lead him to watch a little too much Dr. Phil.

It looks beautiful and communicates well, and I don't know if there's much more that I can say about that!
