FanEXpo

Yesterday I was finally able to check out the last day of Fanexpo 09. It was pretty awesome...soooo much stuff to see, and oh sooooo much money I wish I could spend on cool stuff! This year was especially awesome, because so many friends were taking part in it...here are some photos I snapped from the event. Disclaimer: There are A LOT of shout outs in this post...so GO TO THE LINKS!
Again...somethings must be bought on principle....or if persuaded to by Megumi Chan!
Technical illustrators extra-ordinaire Mark and Steve checking out the goods...
Leslie also checking out the goods....
Mr. Lo personalizing his zines with some custom sketches
Yuta, Peter and Wesley, probably discussing the finer points of the convention.... or the latest issue of Naruto.
The always hilarious and talented Craig and Rosemary doing their thang....originally we had them looking very hood...but they opted for the 'fake hood' look...i.e. Richmond Hill
*obligatory merch shots*
Irma clearly keeping a watchful eye on Bennett's table.

The always dashing Bennett Slater, standing next to an equally handsome Caped Crusader. For some reason Bennett seemed to be quite the hit with the more "exotic presenters" at Fanexpo...FACT.
Andrew 'Drizzley Bear' Patterson in all of his FanEXpo glory
TRON BIKE!!
The awesome and ever adorable Darryl Graham
Needless to say it was a very exciting place to be! Ryan just couldn't contain himself!
Soooo now that Disney's bought out Marvel.....I guess we'll have Thor singing "I can show you the world... Shining, shimmering, splendid! Tell me, princess, now when did you last let your heart decide?" (that probably went on longer than it should have)Here's a shot of all the swag I was able to pick up :)
After walking back and forth to my car like 6 times... finally finished the night off with some sushi at Sushi Time!! Ton's O Fun! Hopefully next year I'll find myself at one of them tables with my goods. Congrats to everyone who took part...it was le Awesome!

“The roaring of lions, the howling of wolves, the raging of the stormy sea, and the destructive sword, are portions of eternity too great for the eye of man.”

Dark knights and morning lights

Time for some action

I came across some of these shorts in the past couple of days and I thought I would share some of them.

ant-views from Jörg Brönnimann on Vimeo.

This first video is "Ant View by Jörg Brönnimann". This short was shot with a Canon Mark II *drools* and it features ants as its main focus and it captures some really nice macro shots of the beasts.

One Fine Day from Modus Films on Vimeo.

Here's one by the awesome Jeremy Asher Lynch of Analog Color fame. You can check out more of his work here, as well as his fine arts work here.

Kahn's Exeter Short Film from Alex Roman on Vimeo.

This last one is a CG short by Alex Roman...all done in 3DS Max, Vray, After Effects, and Premiere. The soundtrack is The Divine Comedy’s “Laika’s Theme” from “Absent Friends” album.

And in case your a little bit more 'blue blooded' these days...here's something that might tickle your fancy. Lord knows it got me all hot and bothered.

Anyways off to pack the rest of me junk!

Thanks for stopping by!

PEN Canada

The reports are in!!

**I briefly posted these up a while back, but thanks to a friendly heads up I realized I should probably hold off until the report was printed before posting anything :). But it's printed now!

I received this hefty and very, VERY well designed package in the mail a couple weeks back. And I was soo jazzed up about I photo documented the affair.

A few months back I was extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to collaborate with the wonder folks over at Soapbox Design on this years PEN Canada annual report, here's a link where you can see all the reports that have been done in the past. I had an incredible amount of freedom to work with, and pretty much the only restriction was that the pieces had to be done in ballpoint pen (booyah!).
'Dangerous Enemies'
6"x8", Ballpoint pen on paper
'Foraging Partnerships'
6"x8", Ballpoint pen on paper

'No blood or tears'
6"x8", Ballpoint pen on paper
'Honorary members released'
6"x8", Ballpoint pen on paper

If you would like to know more about PEN Canada and what they do, here's a link to their site where you can learn about some of the great things they've done in the past as well as some information about them. I had a really great time working on these pieces - and really enjoyed working with the AD's - Thanks Jim and Gary!!
